Rangers
A big thank you to all who donated money towards the new ramp. Part of Girlguiding UK's aim is to be inclusive for everyone and provide the same opportunities for all girls. At the beginning of 2006 one of the existing Rangers said her friend would like to join but wondered if this would be OK as she uses a wheelchair. Our only problem was how she would be able to get into the hut as it is old and only had steps for access. Over the summer holidays the ramp was built and on the first day back we had a barbeque. The Ranger's friend decided to come and visit (without knowing the ramp had been built) and got the best welcome.
Since then the ramp has also starred in the Rangers' video project for the term, (they recreated Big Brother and the ramp formed part of the entrance). The Rangers would like to thank those who supported this project, especially the Bernard Sunley Trust and the Garfield Weston Foundation who made major grants towards the cost, and the Dell Lane Management Committee who organised everything for us.
Since then the Ranger hut fire doors have been updated and widened, the accesible toilet created in the main Hall and ramped access provided throughout, as well as automated exterior lighting.
Our Ranger Unit covers the whole of Epsom Division, from Langley Vale in the West to Worcester Park in the East. There are about 15 of us, young ladies between 14 and 25, with Clare our 'Leader'. If you'd like to chat about joining, drop us an email.
